ABU DHABI // Etihad Airways and Emirates have diverted their Brussels flights to Düsseldorf following the closure of the airport in the Belgian capital.
The airport will remain closed on Wednesday in the aftermath of the bombing, which was reported to have been carried out by ISIL supporters.
Etihad said once Flight EY055 — which was due to leave Abu Dhabi at 9.30am this morning but was delayed until 1.30pm — lands in the German city, ground transport will be provided to get passengers to Brussels.
Passengers who were due to travel from Brussels to Abu Dhabi today should make their own way to Düsseldorf airport for their flight. Transport will not be offered "for our guests in Brussels due to current security restrictions in place" as a result of the bombings, a spokesman said.
Passengers were reminded to check the status of their flights as these had been altered by the airline.
Travellers who purchased tickets on and before March 22 for travel to or from Brussels can rebook their flights until March 29.
An Emirates spokesperson said: "Due to the continuing closure of Brussels Airport and uncertainty about when it will reopen, Emirates flight EK184 on March 23 from Brussels to Dubai will instead depart from Düsseldorf Airport and all customers are automatically rebooked onto this service."
On its website, Emirates said travellers would also have to make their own way to Düsseldorf.
