THE HAGUE // A Dutch biker famed for fighting ISIL alongside Kurdish Peshmergas in Iraq last year has been killed in a tram accident in Amsterdam, his motorcyle club said Friday.
Nomad Ron, 46, a member of the No Surrender MC biker club, hit the headlines in October when photographs emerged of him in Iraq, holding a Kalashnikov assault rifle alongside the Kurdish fighters.
“He died yesterday, he had an accident on his motorbike with a tram and died in hospital,” Corin Denis, the National Captain of No Surrender Motor Club, said.
One of three Dutch bikers who went to fight in Iraq, the former soldier was also filmed by Kurdish television wearing military garb saying he wanted to help the Kurds fight ISIL.
No Surrender reported the “tragic death” on its Facebook page, announcing a farewell ceremony in Amsterdam on Monday.
“He always said: ‘I’m going there to fight against injustice’,” said Mr Denis. “He was doing really well. He never talked about it [his time in Iraq].”
